Stella Dagna è assegnista di ricerca presso l’Università Statale di Milano. Ha lavorato per quindici anni alla Cineteca del Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino. Nel corso della sua vita d’archivio ha co-curato più di un centinaio tra preservazioni e restauri. Collabora dal 2009 anche con l’Università di Torino e insegna “Caratteri del cinema muto” all’Università di Udine. Il cinema muto italiano, il restauro del film e l’etica di archivio sono al centro delle sue attività di didattica e di ricerca. Ha pubblicato diversi lavori dedicati a questi temi, tra cui le monografie Perché restaurare i film?, Ma l’amor mio non muore! e Maciste alpino (1916). Sull’ottimismo di guerra. È vincitrice del premio Jean Mitry Award 2022, assegnato a personalità o istituzioni che si siano distinte per l’opera di recupero e valorizzazione del patrimonio cinematografico muto.

Stella Dagna is a Research Fellow at the University of Milan. She worked for fifteen years at the Film Archive of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino. During her career in archiving, she has co-curated more than a hundred preservation and restoration projects. Since 2009, she has also been collaborating with the University of Turin and teaches ‘Caratteri del cinema muto’ at the University of Udine. Italian silent cinema, film restoration and archival ethics are at the heart of her teaching and research activities. She has published several works on these topics, including the monographs Perché restaurare i film?, Ma l’amor mio non muore! and Maciste alpino (1916). Sull’ottimismo di guerra. She is the winner of the 2022 Jean Mitry Award, presented to individuals or institutions that have distinguished themselves through their work in the recovery and promotion of the silent film heritage.
